OpenAI just locked in another nine-figure check — and a cooler price than it wanted a few weeks ago.
On November 6, 2026, Bloomberg reported that OpenAI has raised about $11 billion so far in a new funding round that values the AI lab at $1.25 trillion. TechCrunch and The Verge both covered the report, citing people familiar with the matter. The $11 billion is described as the first portion of a larger round that has not fully closed yet and could total about $20 billion in the coming weeks.
Targets came down
In late September, Bloomberg had reported that OpenAI was looking to raise as much as $30 billion. Earlier reporting also pointed to a hoped-for valuation near $1.4 trillion. Those ambitions shrank as public AI stocks sold off and investors fretted about data-center spend and post-midterm build-out risk. OpenAI previously raised $122 billion in a March round that valued it at $852 billion.
Anthropic’s book is also resetting
The same day, Bloomberg reported that potential buyers of shares in Anthropic’s IPO are eyeing a substantially lower valuation than Anthropic had targeted — with some seeing figures as low as about $1.1 trillion versus earlier talk near $2 trillion. OpenAI delayed its own IPO plans; there are still expectations it could go public next year.
Dealroom and related coverage named Coatue Management and T. Rowe Price among early participants, with SoftBank, Sequoia, Founders Fund, Andreessen Horowitz and a UAE-linked syndicate also tied to the broader round in earlier reporting. OpenAI declined to comment to TechCrunch.
Why it matters
Private AI valuations are still enormous, but the book is negotiating against midterm politics and infrastructure skepticism. AI vendors and platforms should expect longer procurement cycles and sharper ROI questions from enterprise buyers.
For B2B marketers selling into AI, cloud and security stacks, the message is not “spend endlessly” — it is prove efficiency, lock-in value and clear outcomes while the capital story cools.
