Chrome's AI Autofill Can Now Pull Details From Your Gmail

Hunting through your inbox for a confirmation number in the middle of a form is one of the web’s small, daily annoyances. Google wants Chrome to do that digging for you.

Google said on Wednesday that Chrome’s enhanced autofill can now suggest information pulled directly from Gmail as you fill out online forms. The feature uses Gemini with Personal Intelligence to surface details like order numbers, tracking information and flight bookings.

What it can fill

Autofill has long handled the basics, like names, addresses and card numbers. According to TechCrunch, the upgraded version could also suggest a flight confirmation number, membership ID, tracking details, order number, address, phone number or credit card number by referencing your email.

The feature is an expansion of Personal Intelligence, which already lets users connect Google apps to Gemini so it can retrieve details and answer complex questions.

Controls and availability

Google says sensitive data is encrypted and users stay in control. You can choose whether enhanced autofill is enabled, and what it can access, from Chrome settings.

The rollout is starting in the US on desktop, Android and iOS for Gemini in Chrome users who have Personal Intelligence turned on.

TechCrunch compares it to one of Apple’s best-loved features: automatically detecting verification codes sent by text and offering them above the keyboard. It also notes the update gives users another reason to stay in Chrome and inside Google’s AI ecosystem.

The tradeoff

The convenience comes from giving the browser’s AI more access to personal data. Because the feature is opt-in and managed in settings, users and IT admins can decide how much of that access they’re comfortable with.

Why it matters

Browsers are becoming AI agents that act on personal and work data. For companies running Chrome and Google Workspace, that raises fresh policy questions about which AI features to allow on managed devices.

For security, browser management and data protection vendors, this is a timely conversation starter with IT leaders. Buyers want practical guidance on governing AI features inside everyday tools, and vendors who offer it will stand out.
