Anthropic's IPO Filing Shows Nearly $17 Billion in Q3 Revenue and a Surge in Compute Costs

Anthropic’s revenue is growing at a pace few companies have ever seen. So is the bill for running its models.

On Monday, the AI company filed an amended S-1 ahead of its expected IPO, adding third-quarter results that were missing from the original filing. Anthropic reported $16.96 billion in revenue for the quarter, more than $5 billion above the prior quarter and roughly 12 times the year-earlier figure.

From profit back to loss

After reporting $974 million in operating income in the second quarter, Anthropic swung to a $567 million operating loss in the third. The company said the loss was “primarily driven by $5.0 billion of compute under short-term commitments,” which costs significantly more than comparable multiyear deals.

Compute and infrastructure charges rose to about $9.9 billion in the quarter, a fourfold increase in one year, according to Business Insider. Anthropic also recorded $2 billion in non-cash charges tied to its employee donation-matching program.

Huge commitments ahead

The filing discloses about $895 billion in committed spending on compute and infrastructure, with nearly half expected by the end of 2030. Anthropic has not yet disclosed an IPO price range, share count or offering size.

Why it matters

The filing is one of the clearest public looks at the economics of a frontier AI lab: extraordinary demand, and enormous, long-dated infrastructure commitments to serve it.

For enterprise buyers, it is a reminder that AI pricing and capacity can shift quickly. For vendors in cloud, data center, power and AI tooling, it signals sustained demand. Sellers who help customers plan AI costs and capacity, not just adopt tools, will be the ones buyers call back.
